Investment Banking Analyst
General Interview Information
Interview Details
The interview began with a couple standard walk me through your resume/why investment banking/why Stifel questions. Following the behavioral portion, they quizzed me on the technicals, mostly based on valuation.
We walked through a DCF model, with occasional interruptions asking to go more in depth on deriving WACC. Also asked a question about APV.
Later, I was invited back for their Superday.
It consisted of four interviews spread throughout three hours. Again, it began with very standard behavioral questions, some interviewers wanted to go much more in-depth with certain items on my resume, and would ask some questions that were rather unprompted. Ex: Why did you take multivariable calculus, why would that contribute to your current career choices? Nothing too over the top.
Again a majority of the interview was focused on technicals, with a greater variety of questions. Some dealt primarily with valuation, while others were more involved with financial statements. No brain teasers fortunately. It seemed like a large portion of the questions were dedicated towards intuitively understanding how various changes in your models would affect your output.
The culture of the firm was great. Everyone was incredibly friendly. The people came from a wide variety of backgrounds, with a couple guys who had started off in BB's in New York but chose to come back to the Midwest. Also present was one of the Senior Managing Directors, Rich. I wasn't aware of his high position in the firm until after the interview so that helped with reducing the intimidation factor, but I'm also lucky that I didn't do or say anything out of turn.
