1 on 1 Interview
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I attend a non-target university that utilizes a co-op program to place students at a multitude of companies in the industry. At my university, we have a co-op advisor who sends out our resumes to the companies we where we want to apply. My advisor sent my resume to Summit Partners for a position titled "finance analyst". I heard back from Summit via e-mail and set-up an interview for approximately a week and a half later. I arrived at their office in downtown Boston at 4:00pm on a Thursday afternoon and after let in through security, I was greeted by one of the vice presidents. He directed me to the conference room where I waited for my first interviewer. A young lady (analyst) walked in approximately five minutes later and began the interview. She gave me an overall description of the position and discussed my academic background as well as my prior work experience. After conversing for a few minutes, she got up and told me another team member would be coming in to interview me. I waited again for approximately five minutes and in walked one of the vice presidents of the office. He also gave me a rundown of the position, where I realized it was more of an accounting role than finance role. The position was in the back office and definitely made me realize that I had been mislead by the believing I would actually be working alongside the front office of the private equity/ growth capital firm. Once he asked me some realtively simple behavioral questions and gained an idea of my personality I asked him a few questions and thanked him for the opportunity. Walking out of the office I was confident that the interview went well, however I realized it was not quite the role that I was looking for.
