Interview
First round consisted of a phone interview with an analyst; they asked behavioral questions and very basic finance/accounting questions. Heard back in three business days advancing to the second round. The second round included video chats with four higher-level folks in the finance group; their questions were a mix of behavioral and case study.
Interview Questions
Walk me through the three financial statements...how would [financial statement x] change this item on [statement y], and where would you see this in a revenue and cost Excel model?
One of the most difficult questions began with an overview of the financial statements and outlining the effects of changing various line items on one of the statements. For example: how would changing revenue on the balance sheet affect items on both the income statement and cash flow statement. That part was not that difficult. The more challenging component of the question had to do with the interviewer asking how each of those changes would fit into a series of Excel models. , What are the three biggest challenges that Tesla will face in the next five years?" was another somewhat challenging question.

Interview
The process took about two months. It started with me applying on LinkedIn where I was reached out by a recruiter to begin the process. The first step was an interview with someone who was a former summer analyst and the next, final round, was an interview with four high ups back to back. The first round was completely behavioral, and a great expirience and the final round was four cases with three of them being in Excel. During the final round, they asked me maybe four behavioral questions which I thought was strange.
Interview Questions
I was extremely surprised that I had to do so much in Excel. I was expecting to be asked questions about Excel and how it worked and how to do financial modeling, but I was not expecting to be doing the modeling live for them. One of the hardest things I had to do was use Vlookups and Pivots tables for the interviewer to solve a case. It is one thing to have a huge data set and work on it for homework, but it is something completely different to solve a case in front of someone who was GS for ten years.
