Broker Dealer Analyst Interview - Government - Federal
Note: I did not have direct experience with finra reports or some of the more specific compliance rules and functions. When I first returned the skill sheet reflecting this, the recruiter called and urged me to include any 2nd-hand exposure from when I interned at a brokerage house some three years earlier, and to revise the skill sheet showing at least 6 months experience for each function. I wanted the chance to interview so I followed her instructions and came in the following week.
When I got there, I was told the position was with the sec and given some background on the position. She started by asking typical walk me through your resume type questions, describe a time you managed a difficult situation, etc. Then 2 excel tests, 1st was to sort columns of data in a certain order (days of the week) and 2nd was make a pivot table to organize a large set of data. Then a net capital calculation. Last, I was given 25min to read a company review by 2 ratings agencies and write my own review using their relevant points to create my argument. After this, I had some time for questions.
