Simply put, as a company gets more reviews, the confidence of a "true score" increases so it is pulled closer to its simple average and away from the average of the entire dataset.

Interview
I spent some time over winter break cold emailing boutiques inquiring about potential internships. A MD from Triton responded to my email within a day or two and passed me along to the associate who runs the program. He told me they hire an intern every year and that they wanted to bring me in to the office for an interview. I was leaving Chicago to return to school that week so I ended up interviewing two days after initially getting in touch with the MD. The afternoon before I got an email from the associate who said he forgot to tell me but the position would be unpaid. The interview was very laid back. I initially spoke with the associate coordinating the program who was joined by another associate or VP (can't remember) after about 10 minutes. It started out with the usual interest questions (do you know what ibanking is?, why do you want to do it?, etc.) We then walked through my resume. The guys were both pretty young and we all got along well from the beginning. Once they could tell I wasn't bullshitting them we pretty much just discussed fraternity life and sports, touching a little bit on some deals they were doing as well. Seems like a very tight knit group that does a decent amount of business for an office with roughly 10 bankers. I got the idea their focus is largely on sell-side M&A for bigger family-owned private companies, though they do some restructuring as well as debt placement. Seemed like it would have been a good place to spend the summer from a learning point of view. They said there would be some menial stuff like updating PE firms in the CRM but that they would make sure the intern understood the deal process and how to model.
Interview Questions
There were no "difficult" questions. The few questions I was asked were about myself and my interest in the work. A lot of the interview was spent talking about the firm and the internship.
