Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I was referred by an employee. Received an email requesting an phone interview in early February for a summer internship. It was a one on one interview with the VP of Research. Standard fit questions with a few technical questions. IE why Westwood and what metrics do I use and why when considering a stock. I was told that the internships are short at 6 weeks and they are treated as an extended interview for the yearly hires of new analysts. After the interview he asked me to submit a model and write up on a potential investment.

After the interview I didn't hear back for over 2 months and assumed the worst when I didn't get a response to an email asking about the status of my application. I'm assuming I was wait listed as they considered "better" candidates then settled on me in the end if they still had an open spot.

The whole process was very informal and a bit disorganized as I had to call the VP of Research because he was late getting out of a meeting and forgot about my phone interview. I then waited over 2 months without hearing from them, then out of the blue received a call with an offer from one of the portfolio managers. Told to think about it over the weekend and then received an email that night from HR saying congratulations on accepting the offer even though I hadn't formally or informally accepted anything at that point. Took another couple days before I received an offer letter. Then was asked to fill out an application and take a personality test and sign the waiver for a background check and a drug test.

I asked the HR contact why the long wait to hear from them and did I still need to fill out an application, she said that they had just barely switched to a new method of hiring interns so they were still working out the bugs in the process.

Over all everyone was very friendly and was exactly what you would expect. I rated the interview experience as neutral simply because it seemed they were a bit disorganized throughout the process.
