Wm Smith Securities
Overall Ranking (6%)
The Overall Ranking is a score from 1 star (very bad) to 5 stars (excellent) generated based on the Company Reviews of current and former employees at this company, taking everything into account.
The number you see in the middle of the donut pie chart is the simple average of these scores. If you hover over the various sections of the donut, you will see the % breakdown of each score given.
The percentile score in the title is calculated across the entire Company Database and uses an adjusted score based on Bayesian Estimates (to account for companies that have few reviews). Simply put, as a company gets more reviews, the confidence of a "true score" increases so it is pulled closer to its simple average and away from the average of the entire dataset.

Wm Smith & Co. is an event-driven, special situations, institutional research firm that utilizes 13D filings, insider buying, 13F filings, and stock buybacks to generate investment ideas. Since 1983, we have followed and studied this methodology, which provides the Company with good insight into how successful investors think.
After we identify an idea, we meet with management and when possible, tour their facilities, and speak with competitors, customers and suppliers. Our typical report is 10-15 pages of in-depth analysis, which includes a price target. We publish eight to twelve new ideas annually, holding ourselves accountable for each idea by keeping every recommendation on our Stock Performance Summary listed below.
Since inception in October 1993, Wm Smith Securities, an affiliate of Wm Smith & Co., has participated in over 100 public and private capital markets transactions with some of the leading names in the industry including Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Bear Stearns & Co., Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, Inc. (now a part of Credit Suisse).
Relationships drive our business and as a result, we are very selective. Putting our reputation behind management teams is something we take very seriously. We are committed to delivering exceptional value to the companies we represent and the institutional clients we serve.
