With Scott L. Bok: Aired May 13th at 7PM ET
Scott’s journey is as impressive as it is unlikely: a scholarship kid from rural Michigan who hustled his way through Penn Law, pivoted into M&A at Morgan Stanley during the dealmaking boom of the ‘80s, and went on to lead Greenhill through IPOs, crises, global expansion, and eventually its acquisition in 2024. Few people have spent 40 years inside the room where it happens—and come out with their reputation (and stories) intact.
In this session, Scott will share how he navigated four decades of rapid change on Wall Street, what it takes to build staying power in a brutal industry, how to think about risk, opportunity, and career pivots, and what he looks for when hiring the next generation of leaders.
Don’t Take Our Word For It
Hear From Our Students
Wall Street Oasis has trained over 63,000 students at elite corporate and educational institutions for over a decade.
I wanted to let you know that earlier today I accepted an offer for IB at DB for this summer. You and the other mentors, especially DB alums, have been a massive help. Thank you very much!
I wanted to give you a quick update on my journey since joining the academy. The program has really opened doors for me - before signing up, I did not even know how to network or approach bankers, and now I find myself in processes I never thought possible. I genuinely appreciate how much the academy has helped me get here.
Here is where I currently stand:
I networked with an Associate from BofA, and a month later an off-cycle internship opened. He gave me a direct interview without me even applying online - I am now waiting to hear back on next rounds.
I interviewed with Nordea but unfortunately was rejected after the first round.
I had a coffee chat with a MD (someone I had received deals from in my PE role). He forwarded my CV to HR and discussed me with other MDs, and I should hear soon about an interview.
Through the mentor roster, I connected with a Jefferies alum (now at Harris Williams) who forwarded my resume internally. I passed the phone screening, and HR confirmed I will be invited to a superday in London.
• AVP at Goldman Sachs forwarded my resume to HR after I got connected with
him through the mentor roster.
Following Ela's advice, I reached out to a Deutsche Bank MD, who connected me with an analyst. They told me to apply online, and I am in touch with the team.
• I also spoke with a Rothschild & Co banker who encouraged me to apply online.
On the buy-side, I am mid-process with a hedge fund's private capital division. I
just completed the second round, which included a case study of a take-private
transaction where I built both a DCF and an LBO and drafted IC materials.
It has been intense. I am prepping non-stop, pushing myself harder than ever - so
much that the stress literally made me lose my hair, and I just had a hair transplant
in Turkey last week. I even had recruiting the day after surgery. It is exhausting, and
I do not have an offer yet, but I know I am miles ahead compared to where I would be if I tried to do this on my own.
Thanks again for all the guidance - the academy has truly been a game-changer for me. Still have a few mentoring hours that I will use for mock interviews
Thanks so much for the help!
The mock interviews and the course prep helped a ton all around. I couldn't have done it without the program!
Super excited to get going. Thanks again for all the support throughout the process!
I did secure a remote private equity analyst role for the next 3 months of this summer! Think the practice for the behavioral helped me to stand out in the interview and be selected as 1 of 10 out of 1000+ applicants.
Banking internship and I'm super excited to join. Thanks so much again!
Great news! After multiple rounds and coffee chats, I've received an offer as Equity Research Analyst at CLSA, one of the bigger investment firms here in the APAC region.
I started with the WSO academy in March last year and can gladly say that this program was one of the key reasons I managed to land this role. The mock interviews and just chatting to the mentors really changed my perspective on networking and communication skills, and saw me land a ton more coffee chats/phone calls with analysts and portfolio managers here in Sydney.
I'll reach out to them individually but just wanted to shout out Chris, Alyssa Karbel, Craig Irvine, Matthew Litwin and Tim Weil as they helped me tremendously with mocks, networking and giving me some solid advice and direction.
Thanks Patrick for all your help and I'll be sure to recommend the WSO Academy here in Sydney, Australia!
I am happy with the skillset that I will learn at this new opportunity and will continue to network with the contacts I have made while I at the academy. Chris Riggs was a tremendous help throughout my time with the program and I will continue to be in contact to keep producing work for the Equity Research internship. I learned a tremendous amount of financial skills and interview techniques that I will keep with me for the rest of my life going through WSO and I would like to thank you for putting all of this together!
Chicago office BSG Group
Thanks for all the help!
they had called me about an hour after my superday and i'm super excited that i'd be able to have more than one option!
I have a week to respond, but I'm so excited and relieved I have an offer now
Thank you and the rest of the team for the unwavering support throughout the past couple of months. Great to have a very positive outcome
That being said, if I can be helpful in any way to the academy please let me know. I will of course have less time on my hands after joining banking but keen to give back to this program
confirmed that I will be doing IB somewhere, I'm planning to start the modeling courses soon!
Thanks for all your help, would have not be possible without all of your help
Thank you so much
During the interview one of the interviewers specifically referenced how my cover letter stood out to him, and I was of course using the WSO template.
Morgan Stanley S&T
I would like to thank WSO, the mentors and you for all the support!!
Thank you!!
What I learned at the program definitely helped me land the role-thank you for that!
I was able to land an IB internship at Elara Capital for summer 2025 that should help with recruitment for the next cycle, as well as reviewing the
WSO courses.
mentors.
Thanks a lot Patrick and the whole WSO team!
Thank you once again for everything!
Literally everything this academy offers is golden, from the courses which I used to study for interviews and work on my modelling to the big supportive community and the amazing mentors who:
A. Made me realize my value as I always looked at the fact that I am a non target with a mediocre GPA and never saw the good qualities
B. Trained me to always wow the interviewers
C. Allowed me have more courage
He took the time to explain the rationale behind his feedback, and provided multiple options to finalizing my profile. Tim also went above and beyond by sharing his take on how to think about constructing my TMAY which caused us to go beyond the 30-minute mark.
Again, I am super appreciative of his time and input! First time we chatted, but it certainly will not be the last.
