Locations with Short Travel Times to Canary Wharf and the City (LONDON)

Hello fellow monkeys,

I am planning on renting a place with a friend from uni during our Analyst stints.

The only problem is that I am based in the city, whereas he is in Canary Wharf. What areas would you guys recommend to make the time spent travelling to work reasonably short for the both of us?
