Evening based finance jobs.

Finishing up a BS in finance this coming May from a non-target NYC college, 3.3 gpa and 3.8 in major. I'm looking for a position with nontraditional hours (5pm-midnight) something like that.

Question for you guys is, what jobs should I be searching for? Keywords, companies, etc...

Thanks.

Lol, I felt that response was coming^

I've thought about maybe like working at a local whole foods or work at my local gym on the weekends.

Also, like there are lots of trade shows where I live. Maybe I could try and go do some consulting on the side. Y'all think that would be a good way to meet with start-up people who might need help

Thanks to those who took the post seriously, I have other priorities in the day time and an evening position would be ideal. What about dealing with foreign stock markets, that are open when ours is closed?

And to the person with the janitor comment, come on buddy don't belittle someone's job. The post clearly says "finance based jobs", don't be a prick about it.

i know uniqlo hires people all of the time because the managers are aholes and kids quit all of the time. - friend who worked there for two weeks last semester says

The internship should be the thing that;'s furthering your career, I doubt you're going to get an after-4pm job in an industry thatll make a difference on your resume. Go be a bartender and have some fun

im in the same position. just applied to teach kaplan/princeton review prep classes. not exactly finance but itll improve your communication skills and they pay 15-25/hr. classes generally are at night and on weekends too

hahaha jizz mopper

look into being a doorman... i have friends at school that used to do this (in nyc) and its not a bad gig. you can make 18/hour (i think its a union job), you can work at night, and while it might not be a resume booster, you can actually use it to network (most likely somebody will live in your building that might take a liking to you and might be willing to help you out... they know you are just doing the job for money and that its not a long term career path and so do your best to impress them with your door opening skills)

negatives include having to stand all night after you work all day

looking for that pick-me-up to power through an all-nighter?

Some businesses and accounting firms have after hours auditing jobs. I don't know what your background is but it might be worth looking into. The audits are typically conducted after normal business hours and would pay fairly well. It is more geared toward forensic accounting but you might be able to work something out.

Forensic accounting as a night part-time is a good choice.

i asked my friend... he said to be a doorman you either have to know someone, or, you can walk down park ave and ask the doorman at each building if the super is hiring for a summer fill in

YES there are night internships available.

When I was in school Merrill Lynch would get 1 or 2 students to be an IBD intern from 6pm - 12am for a few nights a week. I am sure they did shitty work, but they got good experience.

my friend is a doorman too. 20/hr and basically fills in when others are out, pretty sweet

also, telemarketing. i used to do it in high school and it was 11/hr and went from 5-10 weekdays... i was getting leads for sub-prime mortgage brokers (If i only knew at the time) in 05-06

some prop shops may have "night-shift" interns, trading asian markets or whatever, don't know...

it wouldn't be coming in at 4 pm anyway...late at night more likely...

i know of a few prop shops that have their traders there 24 hrs a day during the week, where they have three eight-hour shifts

^ right, right. my uncertainty was about whether there are interns on night shifts, not about whether there are night shifts to begin with. i think most prop shops have night activity. but i personally haven't heard of any night interns. on the other hand, that seems wholly possible and reasonable.

i know a few prop shops that ease you onto a night shift as an assistant or execution trader for an established trader after training. personally i'd prefer the night shift. i once gave up an offer from a shop that's considered top 10, maybe top 6 or 7 on wso...and though i was thoroughly unimpressed with the firm, i do regret giving up the chance to work nights - i know they would have put me on some kind of night shift for 6 - 12 months after training. that would have been sweet. then i could drink daiquiris - no, no, camparis - at 11 am and go play mini-golf. or golf. speaking of golf...

cluelessjoegay for pay huh... could be worth it, though not sure if i could look at myself in the mirror after grossing more by gay-tending than trading.

in all seriousness, i have considered bartending (and maybe waiting) but i didnt know if the training school was needed. any bartenders/former bartenders out there with any insight?

gay for pay =/= gay bartending

not sure why that popped into your head...

I had a bit of a rough situation a few months ago and considered being a bottle girl.

Time-wise it would've worked out, but honestly like the guys above said, it's not just about the hours you spend at work. If you're doing this job for some kind of immigration status, then fine, but if you're actually trying to succeed there, it's going to take a lot of effort at home as well.

Just live farther away to get cheap rent... The hours you commute will be much less than hours spent bartending, and you could (in NYC) save up to a grand a month by living in Queens of Brooklyn.

I don't accept sacrifices and I don't make them. ... If ever the pleasure of one has to be bought by the pain of the other, there better be no trade at all. A trade by which one gains and the other loses is a fraud.

Yeah, the bartending thing is hard, but I'm an extreme workaholic, or used to be. So hey, to each their own. You could also just do Friday night / weekends, that's what I've been doing for the last few months.

There are plenty of part time jobs though, all you really have to do is wander around your neighborhood asking local businesses if they need an extre person. A lot of them will also let you work for cash. If you're just looking for a few extra bucks on the side, don't be picky, there's plenty of people that need work done if you're willing to ask around.

Truthfully, you'd do best to go in with the attitude that for at least the first month, you're going to go all in. If after then you're obviously going to have a budget shortfall, THEN consider a part time job. It's kind of hard to put your best effort if you go into the situation looking to hedge your bets....yes?

For my sophomore internship I worked at a FX brokerage as a sales analyst. The place was open 24/7, and always had sales staff around the clock. The pay was meh, but the job was somewhat engaging.
