Randomly emailed the Director who was in charge of the recruiting process on Wednesday. Received a phone call the next day to come in for a lunch meeting with the Head of IB and himself. Discussed basic background and resume stuff. Two days later had a series of 3 30 min interviews with 2 employees per round. Very basic and no technical questions, but this was probably due to my prior year of experience in IB. Got the offer the following week.
Interview Questions
Why do you want the job?

Why do you want to work for our company?

Why do you want to be in Investment Banking?

What is Investment Banking?

Four investment bankers need to cross a bridge at night to get to a meeting. They have only one flashlight and 17 minutes to get there. The bridge must be crossed with the flashlight and can only support two bankers at a time. The Analyst can cross in 1 minute, the Associate can cross in 2 minutes, the VP can cross in 5 minutes and the MD takes 10 minutes to cross. How can they all make it to the meeting in time?

Interview
Phone interview with two associates, basic fit questions, then phone interviews with two analysts at the firm (was out of state for these) with more knowledge-based questions about the industry and a conversation with the head of research as well, more fit than anything else
Interview Questions
Do you invest? (I did not at the time) If so, why not?
Why Equity research and not investment banking or consulting? What attracts you about equity research specifically over other roles?
Why did you decide to switch from your science background to finance? (I wanted to work for a healthcare analyst due to my background working in cancer research)
What experience do you have with excel? What about financial modeling and accounting? (A basic knowledge at least is required even as an intern as I was asked to build a model)

Applied via my campus recruiting portal, then was selected for an interview, which I prepared for in-depth, however, heard back a week later that i was not selected to attend their superday
Interview Questions
One of the senior managers asked a question that really confused me regarding PE, not IB, talking about how a PE swaps their investment and recouped their investment and swaps out earnings, ending with asking "how is this possible ..." The latter question he then stated, after I took a shot at it, he has asked 40 people the same exact question, with 39, including myself, getting it wrong.

Networked with alumni to have resume submitted. I then spoke with a Director there that heads the recruiting process for my 1st round interview, and it was a fairly difficult interview. I then had 2 more phone interviews with 1 being an interview with 2 associates. After the 3 phone interviews, there was a superday about a month later. The superday was at their office and consisted of 6 30 minute interviews that were all almost strictly fit type questions.
Interview Questions
Walk through the purchase of a new asset for $10M using debt for 2 years.

Pretty simple for first year but remember to reduce net income by an additional 1m(assuming 10% interest rate) * (1-.4) for 2nd year to account for interest payment.

I went through their intial campus recruitment process. I had a first round interview with a VP and spoke with analysts over the phone to learn more about the firm. I received a 2nd round (final round) in their headquarters in Nashville which consisted of 8 30minute interviews. I interviewed with everyone in the IB group from analysts to MDs to the head of investment banking at Avondale. The night before the superday, there was a dinner and drinking event that helped candidates learn more about the firm and its culture. After superday, I received a verbal rejection from the VP. Overall, my experience was good with them.

Discussed the position on the phone. I called out their lackluster coverage, weird focus on Rail and Health Care and asked if their ER makes money. Doesn't seem likely. seriously, who covers 30 rail companies and 10 health care devices? where's the market overlap? didn't make much sense, but then i found out analyst can cover almost anything.
Interview Questions
The most difficult question was why i wanted to work at avondale over another ER shop. I couldn't think of a single reason, so i hemmed and hawed about freedom and passion and pursuing my interests. I don't know who i was trying to convince, them or me. so, theres that.

I applied for this internship through my college's online internship database. The interview was on my campus, and it lasted roughly thirty minutes. The interview consisted of mainly behavioral questions with a few technical questions. I was not invited back for a second round interview.
