Please describe the interview / hiring process.
The interview process was fairly straightforward.
1) I networked with two alumni working in the group a few weeks before the application opened
2) When the application opened, I immediately applied
3) I was sent a HireVue "first round" -- apparently not everyone gets one, so this was a good sign
4) I completed the HireVue and a few days later I received an invitation to interview for the M&A group in Palo Alto. Keep in mind that there is coverage and M&A -- M&A is a lot smaller and they only take two analysts per year. I never received an interview for coverage but I heard you can apply to both.
5) The first round interview was fairly technical -- they basically asked everything off of the M&I 400 (like they went through every single question lmao). But, my interviewer also asked me to describe a deal I found interesting. What threw me off was when he started asking for multiples.
6) I got all of the questions right except one options question at the end, but I must have done good enough because they invited me for a super day
7) The super day was supposed to be two round. They scheduled round 1 with me, but I never got a second round after that.
8) Round 1 was with an MD -- very behavioral, asked a lot of in-depth questions about my resume. No technicals. Seemed to really want to vet whether I had a strong interest in banking. Also asked a lot of questions about why M&A vs Coverage so make sure to be able to answer that.
9) Never got invited to the next round of my super day unfortunately. Received a rejection three months later. I followed up but no one responded.

My advice to people recruiting for BofA Palo Alto -- make sure to network with alumni beforehand. I don't think they have an HR person who runs recruiting so alumni will be your best bet. Make sure to have strong responses to why Coverage vs M&A. My perception on the culture is that it is very grindy, work hard, finance hardo -- but they all seem to be chill people at the end of the day.
