Phone Interview

Group Interview
Background Check
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
First I applied through my schools' recruiting portal and the BAML site as well.
Initial phone interview was with the highest guy in the unit (my future bosses' bosses' bosses' boss). It was a very awesome phone interview, great guy, clearly cared enough about his unit and his people to personally conduct phone interviews. The phone interview was ~30 minutes, mostly behavioral, background, and goals-oriented questions.

A month later I was invited to the Super day. This was one of the worst interview experiences I've ever had, and I almost declined the offer based solely on what happened.

We got in at 9:00am (roughly 12 of us), expected to be there from 9-5. All normal; no complaints. They then took half of the interviewees to begin interviewing. I was not part of this group- I was part of the second group. They left us sitting in the conference room for three hours doing nothing. Now, if they were trying to see how we reacted or dealt with boredom that would be one thing. I don't believe this to be the case, because as the first set of interviewees finished they went home immediately.

I missed an important doctors' appointment to do this interview that took 4 months to reschedule (speed of the VA). Several of the others missed work or classes. And there was absolutely no reason for it-- a blatant disregard for their interviewees' time. I understand there's a certain pecking order and I will need to deal with a significant amount of crap, but getting menial work and disrespect are two different things.

I then had 3 one-on-one interviews.
