Summer Associate Intern

The on campus process (at NYU) covered about 3 months of time with a number of cuts throughout the process and closed list events. After applying for interviews, we received notice in early December regarding whether we received an interview invitation.

The first round interview itself was a 1-on-1 interview that was about half behavioral and half technical check-the-box type questions. The second/final round took place at the Barclays offices and consisted of two different interviews. The order varied, but you met with both a Director and an Associate. The Director asked background and resume questions, behavioral questions, and general fit type questions. The Associate ran through technicals in a case format. We were given a sheet consisting of historical and projected financials (I/S and B/S) and there was a line of questioning based on that sheet. The questions required us to read the financial statements, interpret what activities and events may have taken place, and to try to gauge what values we should have expected had a merger not taken place in one of the given historical years.

It was all fairly straight forward, though it would be easy to get tripped up on the technicals if you weren't sure how to project given components of a balance sheet or income statement from year to year.
