Group Interview
Interview
I was originally part of the Sophomore Summit Program in January. Day 2 of that program included a group interview with a Associate or Director, if they liked you then you would be referred on to have a first round. During my first round I had a 1 on 1 teams call with a trader in cash equities. The questions were the routine tell me about yourself, tell me one trait about you not on your resume, why BNP, a brain teaser, and some mental math (I was asked 11^4). We had some time at the end and coincidentally I was from an area the interviewer frequented for trips when they were young, so we spoke a bit about that to end the interview. After the first round I was not pushed forward to a superday (at least as far as I know) but it typically is first round --> superday for BNP. As far as my interactions and perception of people at the firm, the one thing that really made me want the internship was the nurturing culture that they have. I know they are notorious for skimping on bonuses (this was acknowledged by an alumni from my school I spoke to) but having a small but quickly growing team was something that I wanted to be a part of.
One thing that I want to stress is how important networking was for this. I ran through some of the questions with multiple alumni who work there and had access to the question bank which helped make my answers as solid as possible.
Interview Questions
The stock pitch was the most difficult. This was mainly because I was pitching a stock to a person who was a sales person of the specific stock, and so he knew the company well and grilled me on it. Make sure that you have your long short thesis solid.

I was also asked a mental math question 11^4, and the interviewer said to walk him through how I was solving it.
The Brain teaser that was asked was: 3 boxes all labeled wrong, one box only had apples, one only oranges, and one mixed, you get to pick one fruit out of a 2 boxes to properly label all of the boxes, which box do you pick and why?

Tell me about yourself

Why BNP?

What is one time where you were a leader

I got a superday after their open sophomore opportunity summit. Their superdays are usually 3 rounds and honestly they are not so bad. They do ask a lot of cultural based questions and the technical questions revolved around what is a basis point, what is future value of this investment, and lighter technicals in general. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and I can tell that the team were good and nice people for sure.
Interview Questions

Interview
Three rounds total with 8 interviewers across a few weeks. The first round was with a VP and an MD back to back, about 40 minutes combined, covering behavioral fit, deal experience deep dives, motivation for LatAm, and technicals (DCF, valuation multiples, capital structure neutrality, live perpetuity calculation). A portion was conducted in Spanish. The second round was a super day with another senior team member, roughly half English and half Spanish, heavier on technicals including a full DCF walkthrough, unlevered vs levered free cash flow, terminal value edge cases, comps analysis, and an expected value probability question. Both rounds pushed hard on follow ups and tested whether you could go multiple layers deep on your deal experience and valuation knowledge.
Interview Questions
Can you think of any type of asset or company where you wouldn't calculate a terminal value and would just forecast cash flows for a certain number of years and stop
You have a 30% chance of gaining $150 million and a 60% chance of losing $80 million. Would you make the investment

Finally, superday was 4 interviews (all back to back) lasting 20 minutes each (in person). Very strong emphasis on soft skills and fit, two rounds were technical.
Interview Questions
I got a question about the implications of a non-farms payroll coming out that was different from what the market was expecting. How did this affect short-term, medium-term, and long-term bonds?
