1 on 1 Interview
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I went through the wealth management internship interview process last spring and it was more involved than I expected. It started with an online application where they looked at my GPA, finance coursework, and involvement in my school's investment club. After a few weeks I got a call from HR for a short phone screen where they asked why I wanted to be in wealth management and walked through my resume. From there I had two rounds of interviews with associates at the firm, which mixed behavioral questions with technical ones — they asked me about portfolio diversification, how I'd explain risk to a client, and my thoughts on the current rate environment. One firm had me do a stock pitch, which I prepared for over a weekend and presented to a panel. The final stage was a superday where I had four back-to-back interviews with senior advisors and a managing director. What surprised me most was how much they emphasized communication and personality — they really wanted to know if I could sit across from a wealthy client and build trust, not just crunch numbers.
