Interview
The process was straight forward. There was a HireVue, then a first round phone screen before a 1 on 2 with an associate & VP. This interview consisted of a mix of technical, cultural and behavioral questions. Then, an in-person super day with three 1 on 2 interviews. This consisted of everyone from associate to MD. Each interview was themed as either technical, cultural or behavioral. In terms of technical difficulty, there were no oddball questions. Everything was relatively standard in terms of classic banking technicals (I.e., walk me a through dcf / lbo, what are the valuation methodologies, $10 of depreciation, etc) in addition to classics like “tell me about a recent deal”.
Interview Questions
1. Walk me through an LBO
2. If you could start a company tomorrow, what would it be and why?

The Citizens Bank Commercial Banking Internship interview process involves three rounds: a HireVue self-guided video assessment, a team interview with generally two people, and a final HR interview. The HireVue round was very basic behavioral, pre-set questions. Selected candidates then advance to a live, one-on-one interview with usually two team members to discuss experiences in more detail, fit, and not really any technical questions. The HR interview, focused on team work and basic accounting questions, concludes the process. Prepare by doing coffee chats with Citizens’ employees, practicing concise responses, and dressing professionally.
Interview Questions
The most difficult questions they asked was about how the income statement, cash flow, and balance sheet connected and what mattered. They also asked about interest rates and metrics/reports that may affect interest rates and your hopes of what will happen, ie: if you want rates to go down or up and why.
