Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I was in an interview room on campus with two members of the CS Oil and Gas team. One 3rd year analyst and one VP. I was the first interview of the morning, so arrived early and started immediately. While I gave a little on my background and my status in the recruiting process, the guys wanted to test my technical skills and I happily obliged. Nearly the entire interview was technical, ranging from questions about the firm itself, group heads' names, stock price, price of crude/nat gas, then some industry specific questions, like why has oil fallen the last three months. Next they asked a series of questions about bonds - if a bond begins to trade at a premium, why would that be the case? If market rates go up, what happens to the price of a bond that is already trading at a premium?
After that, they asked more tecnhicals on how to perform a levered free cash flow model, how an asset purchase affects the three financial statements, and a comparative multiple analysis of two hypothetical companies. They really covered all the bases and once I was finished with those they stated selling me on the firm. I believe my case may be somewhat idiosyncratic because I already had two offers from other firms that I was fairly intent on taking, they decided to grill me a little bit. I was appreciative of their time, and got nearly all the questions correct.
