Summer Investment Banking Associate

This was a different sort of interview. First rounds were 2 on 1 and almost solely technical questions from jr VPs. Technical questions were fairly challenging and included some macroeconomics/capital markets current events.

Second round interviews (super day) were at the firm's offices and were conducted by Sr VPs, MDs and heads of office. Second round interviews were entirely about fit and no technical questions were asked. The atmosphere was very congenial and upbeat but they expected me to run the conversation. They asked questions that arose naturally while we were talking about my background and non-work interests. I think they were trying to figure out if I was someone they could have a beer with while also being someone who could pull the hours with positivity. If I ran out of stuff to talk about or allowed a pause, they asked the usual ending question: "is there anything you have for us?" I think they expected a lot of questions/conversation to come from this question.
