Software Intern

Applied online to D. E. Shaw, no referral. Heard back in just a few days. Started off with a quick phone screen with a few simple intuitive questions -- some were of the form "how does this programming language work?". Invited to an on-site afterwards, which is pretty tough. I had around 6 interviews (morning to night). Lots of deep programming questions (e.g. "Tell me how Python works") and some mathematical ones. A lot of questions are difficult to study for and are more like programming based logic puzzles ("based on how OOP works, how can we dispatch this function correctly?").

Needed to send over a few references and a coding sample afterwards. Heard back with an offer soon after. Process moves extremely quick with them. Recruiters are really smart and great. Highly recommend.
