Interviewer seemed visibly tired, yawning often, and overall disinterested in the experience. I was able to skip the initial phone screening through networking through my diversity organizations. I interviewed with an experienced analyst at the firm. A bunch of behaviorals followed by a few basic accounting technicals.

First, I had a one-on-one interview with a nice lady. She really liked my answers because I got the email for the second round in about 30 minutes. For the second round, they had sent me info about a company that I examined before the interview. During the second interview, they asked personal and technical questions. Then, we talked about the case study. Lastly, they presented another case study regarding the financial statements of 4 companies. Probably got dinged after that round because have not heard back in about ~1 month (though the lady from the first mentioned that 2/6 spots were already filled).

Set up a call with HR and it was mainly all behavioral questions. It was a very conversational interview. Culture of the firm is focused more on long term investing so the average tenure is long and there is a low turnover rate.

3-4 interviews with HR, associates, and analysts. A solid mix of behaviorals, cases, and technicals - though those were easy.
Interview Questions
Most of the questions were pretty easy. I was asked basic behaviorals along the lines of why this firm, why SF, why asset management, what got you into investing, etc. Then some basic technicals such as what is FCF both levered and unlevered etc. There was a short case where you had to talk about a company / transaction where they asked you basic questions about the facts of some merger and whether or not it made strategic sense. A lot of broad investing questions about what makes a good investment, how would you value different assets, etc. All pretty easy.

Pretty much a one thirty minute interview with three people, stock pitch techs and behaviorals, could have been a bit easier since my school has a good relationship. very nice people!
Interview Questions
Stock pitch: they asked a bunch of follow ups but were less maybe discussion based q’s and more just to see if i understood the thesis myself, took about ten minutes for this section. make sure you know one pitch and know it well.

Techs: basic basic accounting question on depreciation, also they asked about the difference between FCF and LFCF and how taking on debt would impact a valuation

Behaviorals: runnof the mill, what do you look for in a mentor, why asset management/not investment banking

Interview Questions
Value investing is having a very tough period right now. You are a college student, and someone might tell you don't do it. Why would you do it? If value investing is so good why other people aren't doing it? What is a good business in your opinion? Tell me about a time when you failed? What was your greatest accomplishment? Tell me about a company that you researched? What do you want to do in the long-term? What would you get out of our program? What is your favorite book? How would you research an idea?

Interview
Dodge & Cox had on campus informational sessions and coffee chats; once applications opened up, I reached out to an analyst I spoke with and he pushed me through the process. Response rate was ~2-3 weeks from application submission to receiving interview.
Interview Questions
Questions about my stock pitch were most difficult -- the analysts asked questions that focused on the qualitative aspects of the business rather than any kind of quantitative measures, etc. Was mostly asked about how the business operated and generated revenue.

I pitched a company that traded at a 9x P/E ratio, and was asked about how I could feel comfortable purchasing such an expensive stock.
I was also asked about the specifics of the company's competitive advantages, and how sustainable they were.
