Please describe the interview / hiring process.
Eastdil Secured is the premier shop for real estate investment sales, especially if you're focused on San Francisco. I had done an internship previously and had a great experience but was looking to transition into the principal side of the business. A former colleague told me they were looking for an immediate hire and were far along in the process with other candidates, but that I should still interview. I ended up planning the interview directly with those who would interview me. The group is full of fun, bright, energetic, and friendly professionals that know how to get business done but also create a great culture. The interview was a phone conversation with several members of the group, all of whom were friendly, encouraging, and enjoyed their job. It was more of a conversation although some of the standard questions came up with a slight emphasis on capital markets. After the interviews, they informed me they would arrange for me to meet everyone in the SF office for the final interview (since I had worked there previously, the process was a little faster than normal). Unfortunately, they had already given an offer by the time I interviewed (unknown to some in the groups) so I did not go further in the process.
For those new to the investment sales side of the business, understand what it is and what it is not. It's very important not only to answer interview questions effectively but also to assess if this is something you're interested in.
