Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I fist got in contact with an employee at the 'Banking and Financial Service Fair' which Evercore attended. There I briefly spoke to a 2nd year analyst about the company etc. He gave me a business card and said that they would host a recruiting event in their offices the following week. I should send him an email with my details and he would make sure that I could attend. The recruitment event was partly interesting, partly boring. I personally did not need a fancy presentation that tries to convince me why I would want to work for Evercore. I knew already what investment banks do and why I wanted to work for a boutique, like Evercore, as opposed to the budlge brackets. Employees were very nice and afterwards we went for a few drinks with some of the analysts. It was a very relaxed atmosphere throughout. The next day I applied through the website and only a day later I got a telephone call with an invitation for the assessment centre. The assessment centre started with a group interview on a case study about a hostile bid for a european construction company. Everyone (the were 5 of us), got a big prospectus with loads of information, including annual reports, newspaper clippins etc. about the target company and a set of three general questions to asnwer. We were given 30min to read the material. Afterwards three employees entered the room and asked us various questions, that we would discuss in a group.

Afterwards I took a math test which I thought was very similar to a GMAT (probably easier). Time is scarce but the test was manageable. The test was followed by three individual 1-on-1 interviews with 2 analysts and 1 associate. Questions were largely technical and of course required me to justify why I am applying for this position. I have good experience in boutique investment banking, so it was easy for me to explain.

After two days I got a call with an invitation for the next round. The interview partners were all senior and I had a total of 4 interviews. Questions were less technical and rather personality based or related to current events in the markets and society. For example we talked about the OWS protesters and how I felt about them. Other questions were about Greece and the Euro. I started reading financial news intensively 2 weeks before the exam and I felt very well equipped to answer any market related question they threw at me.

Got a call 2 weeks later with an invitation for the last round. I rejected as I accepted an offer from another boutique.
