Summer Associate Intern
General Interview Information
Interview Details
The first round interview was held on campus, interviewees had prior notice that this interview was going to be a case study. The Capital One case study is slightly different from a normal consulting case study that is mostly interviewee led.
During my interview, the interviewer came up with a scenario (about my hometown) of a person needing loans to open a McDonald's in a new airport terminal. Briefly covered qualitative reasons why or why not this person would get the loan. Began quantitative questions about break-even analysis and revenue calculations. Was not very complex but did require you to work through your calculations with the interviewer.
Advice for this kind of interview would be to review what is one Capital One's website regarding interviews and just a very general knowledge of economic reasons for lending. Quantitative analysis was fairly simple but required the interviewee to be smooth with calculations. If you tend to get nervous in the situation, practice writing down calculations while showing them to someone across a desk (seems to be echoed in many of the consulting interview prep guides).
One odd part of the interview was the other person sitting in the room, who was a HR trainee learning how to do interviews.
It seemed like a bunch of very nice people, I was not offered a second round interview but I was not very convinced I would have gone to Richmond, VA anyway. Salary seemed reasonable, but my research showed that business analysts tended to do better in that regard.
