Summer Associate Intern

I got the interview through networking with the head of healthcare at HL. It was set up as an informational interview; however, once I found out they had a superday the day before I pushed for an interview and sent my résumé in. I had 4 phone interviews over the following 5 days. I also completed a 3 hour excel modeling exercise that was emailed to me (I was not available to go into the office). A week after the call with the MD, I was in the office for superday. I had 6 interviews, one of which was a tele conference with the Chicago office. They also have a healthcare team there and they share resources. I also had to complete an hour long written exam and a 10 minute excel formatting exercise where I was watched by the associate for keyboard formatting excel knowledge.

General observations:
The team seemed pretty hardcore. The interview I had with the analyst on the team revolves primarily around technical questions and the fact that only 1 analyst had finished the 2 year program in the last 6 years. Of course, he was that analyst. Also, a VP asked me "if I was the kind of person who would be watching a football game Sunday night and practicing/learning excel shortcuts?" Needless to say, they were trying to understand the commitment level to the job through intimidation which I expected, but not to the level outlined above. They talked about having great deal flow and winning about 50% of pitches. I have no idea whether that info is accurate but I guess it would explain the brutal hours implied.
