Interview Questions
The interviewer seemed to be typing as I was responding her questions, so that was a bit of a distraction, to anything I would say, she would just respond "huh". The most unexpected thing she asked me was actually absolutely random and was based on my "Interests" section, where it said that I loved Guy Ritchie's movies. And then she asked me what is my favourite one and why, but I could not name it, as I saw it in another language and did not know the english name, but we laughed it off and moved on.

She also asked me the classic "Why our firm, if there is Goldman".

Interview
I got the interview through a recruiter. I was warned that the guy I was meeting was pretty harsh in interviews. I was to meet with a member of the research management, I asked if I was to prepare anything specific in advance, and was told no.

When I turned up the interviewer was pretty cold, and asked for me to move rooms first off. During the interview, I was asked standard things like my motivations for wanting to move to research, and achievements to date which was fine. Then we moved onto a stock I liked. I was pitching the stock, why I thought it was cheap etc. I was then questioned on it to an extremely detailed level. I was asked about the geographical split of revenue over it's operating segments, as well as how many employees it had. These things were not items which affected the investment case in my eyes, and besides, I had not actually been asked to prepare anything, so to have to know things in this level of detail seemed unfair. Needless to say, I was not invited back for a second round!
Interview Questions
How many people retire in the US everyday?
-I worked through in a logical fashion, based on no of people in the US, how many of these are of retirement age etc. He seemed happy with my answer.
