Phone Interview
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I didn't actually apply to the research group and received an unsolicited call from a recruiter asking if I was interested in an equity research position focusing on Latin American countries based on my prior background and language skills. From what I gathered, the internship had just been created, and they pooled from applications they hadn't outright rejected but didn't offer any interviews for in prior recruiting.

I had an interview scheduled with one of the group heads on the phone and he interviewed me along with a colleague about my research background (non-finance related), my interest in and knowledge of Latin America, my statistical abilities, and a brief Q&A in Spanish (not skill related but just conversational to gauge my ability).

I also submitted excel modelling examples and statistical modelling examples for their review. I was told they would reply within a week.

After a week passed I emailed the person I interviewed with, and the email bounced back saying the mail box was full. I did this daily for about a week and then every few days. After about a month I stopped emailing. A few weeks later, I received a call from the initial recruiter to apologize and say that the internship would no longer be offered for the summer, but given my performance, I should call back in the fall for FT recruitment. The entire end scenario seemed very strange.

This was a very challenging interview process even though it was just on the phone. I had never been asked so many detailed questions about statistical analysis, which was surprising.
