Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I attended the On Campus Info Session, met some bankers, and then submitted my resume in the campus resume drop. A couple of weeks later I was contacted to sign up for an on campus interview. I showed up to the interview and met with two bankers for a 30 minute interview; I believe one was a VP and the other was a MD. Based on advice I had received from the campus career office, I let them know upfront that I did not have previous experience in investment banking, but had been working hard to develop that knowledge. Somehow they interpreted this as "this girl is an idiot". After asking me a few behavioral interview questions, the VP then asked me, "Well, do you at least know anything about interest rates?" I responded that I did, as I was definitely more comfortable with debt capital markets than equity capital markets. The MD then proceeded to ask in a really condescending voice, "What happens to bond prices when interest rates rise?" I answered that bond prices drop because investors are able to buy newly issued bonds with higher yields for the same risk. He then responded, "Well, at least you know that", and then ended the interview.
Obviously, I didn't move to the next round, but the whole experience was extremely negative and I definitely lost any interest in ever working for Wells Fargo, I ended up not going into investment banking and working for a corporation that was covered by Wells Fargo as well as other investment banks. I continue to get a perverse pleasure when I am able to guide our most desirable business to bank other than Wells Fargo.
