Please describe the interview / hiring process.
Applied online for IBD and GIR, one Hirevue for both. Still havent heard from GIR but I know their timeline is later. I had some communication with campus recruiters who reached out to me via email, but that was mostly networking related; I didn't get recruited via campus (I am target school, but not target major). I got email about 2-3 weeks after my hirevue submission I was invited for an IB superday.

I just took it yesterday, so honestly have no idea how it went. It was virtual, 3 back to back 20 minute interviews. I was told it could be up to 6 people, it only ended up being 4 (ranging from 2 associates. 1 VP, 1 MD). Superday itself wasn't as difficult as I thought. Maybe 4ish technicals total, much more economy outlook/broader questions to test your knowledge. Have answers prepped. Know about the economy, market fears, etc, and more importantly have opinions. This job isn't just pitch me a stock. Be someone that presents a genuine knowledge and interest in the broader dynamics, things that you actually can know before starting the job.

One thing I will say is the technicals they asked me weren't questions I had ever seen on any prep resources. Same concepts, different applications. For example, a question I saw everywhere was walk me though what happens to a model with $10 of depreciation. On my Superday, I got walk me through walk me through what happens to a model when theres a write-down of $100 (so know about provisions). So when prepping, try to build the most holistic/comprehensive understanding possible. Practice by modeling.

I'm also directing all of this advice to my more non-target majors. I don't know what finance/accounting majors are learning about in school, but you will have to know everything they know. There is no "I'm a liberal arts major but its okay because I am a fast learner". No one wants to teach you this. You have to teach yourself, and being able to answer these technicals just as well or better than the applicants who major in this crap will reflect even better for you. It shows you are proactive, you taught yourself, you can hang with the big kids.

One more piece of advice, if you are introverted, or at all shy, and worry about presenting/pitching yourself, shape up and fix that now. Start going out more and meet new people and expose yourself to uncomfortable situations. You have to be able to talk to people, and be someone people want to work with. It goes both ways, don't be a cocky asshole, always remember that whoever is interviewing you is inherently better than you, at least in that moment in time. They already have the job. And they aren't in human capital management. They have the job you want. Alright that's all I have.
