The interviews were a series of phone screenings, a modeling test and several 1-on-1 in-person interviews with VPs through MDs at the firm. The first round of interviews were via phone and in-person in NYC (which included the modeling test) and the final round was a super-day at HIG's HQ in Miami. Each 1-on-1 interview lasted from 30-60 minutes and topics covered included technical knowledge, deal experience, qualitative interview questions and case studies. There was a strong emphasis on technical knowledge and case studies (ability to evaluate the merits of a company and potential deal). The modeling test was a 3-statement model and LBO in 2 hours. The case study was an in-person 1-on-1 where I had to ask questions to learn more about the company, form an investment thesis, do a paper LBO and present my opinion of the deal.
