HIG conducted a phone interview to screen initial candidates and brought 8-10 candidates to Boston for final interviews with multiple senior members of the team.

The initial phone interview mostly covered background, desire to work in PE / for HIG and included a short hypothetical case study with some detailed accounting questions.

The final interviews included a modeling test, verbal case studies, accounting questions and general / fit interviews. Most candidates interviewed with 4 or 5 senior members of the team and had a group lunch with a few junior team members and other candidates.

I didn't have a particularly favorable or unfavorable opinion of the firm, position or the employees. I had the impression everyone works fairly hard and puts work aside when it is done. I didn't get the feeling camaraderie among the team was great, but didn't think the environment was hostile.

In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't receive an offer since I likely would have accepted it given HIG's track record and 'franchise'.
