Please describe the interview / hiring process.
It felt like a pretty organized process that moved over about a month or two, starting with a recruiter call to walk through my background, why real estate, and why Hines. After that, I met with a few people from the investment team in separate rounds, mostly a mix of deal experience questions, market views, and some technical underwriting stuff like returns, cap rates, and how I’d look at an acquisition. There was likely an Excel case or modeling test somewhere in the middle where they wanted to see how you think, not just whether the numbers tie out. Everyone came across sharp but low ego, and the office vibe seemed professional, calm, and serious about the work without feeling stiff. Communication could be a little slow between rounds, but once they were ready to move, things picked up quickly. Best advice is know your deals cold, have a real opinion on the market, and be personable because they seem to care a lot about fit.
