Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I applied online through my school's career center website in October 2014. I go to a non-target so I was surprised that the posting was there. I completely forgot that I had applied for the position and focused on other interviews, then a first year analyst from Morgan Stanley reached out to me in mid December asking me to set up a phone interview for their IBD summer analyst program in NYC. The interview took place around Christmas time and lasted about 30 minutes. The analyst was really friendly and informative. He first asked mostly behavioral questions and then moved onto technical questions. Behavioral questions consisted of asking about my resume and then the typical 'why banking over tech, why banking over your previous internship if you got a return offer, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Technical questions were heavily accounting based -- how to get to revenue to FCF; what are the three financial statements and how are they related; how would a $10 increase in depreciation flow through the three statements; etc. Overall, I thought the interview went well and I felt good about most of my answers, but MS is very tough and unfortunately I didn't make the cut. Positive candidate experience.
