Please describe the interview / hiring process.
Applied for summer associate IB position on HSBC's website. Was contacted by an associate in the M&A group three weeks later who indicated that HR had reviewed my resume, and that he wished to set up a phone interview. We set up an interview for later that day. Asked me to walk him through my resume, and then asked me why I was interested in IB. Then asked some very standard technicals, and left the rest of the time for me to ask him questions. About and hour after the interview ended I received an email from another associate who asked to set up an interview. He and I spoke that same day as well, and again, I was asked to walk him through my resume, discuss my motivations, answer standard technical questions, and then I asked him a few questions, and that was that. At the end of the day I got an email from HR asking me to come in for a superday two days later (phone interviews happened on a Tuesday, superday was scheduled for a Thursday).
During the superday I met with five bankers, 3 VPs, one Director, one MD. Each interview was one-on-one. Standard walk me through your resume, why IB, why HSBC, etc. Two of three VPs asked technical questions, and one of them asked brain teasers. The one Director asked technical questions. Heard back 2 business days after interview.
