1 on 1 Interview
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
From a non-target school. Networked and got employee referral. HR reached out to me and set up phone interview. Invited me for an on-site Superday. Flew out for pre-night to know interviewers, and next morning interview. The analysts sharing their experiences seem to be very smart and organized. The HR lady was way too friendly.

On interview day I met with three partner/MDs each for 30 mins, two behavioral and one case. One behavioral interview was particularly difficult, mostly because the interviewer kept rejecting/laughing at my answers. In my head, I was like 'Uh. RUDE!', but then I figured it could be tactic. Relaxed a bit and act more confident. I have a feeling that they like people that are very confident, almost arrogant.

Case interview was something else. I walked in and greeted the partner, bonded over my passion of sustainability and knowledge of smart grid. Moving on to the case, she said "You know. I never liked case interview, you will almost do nothing like what we test you in the case. I will make up something for you". In my head, "Did I buy LOMS and spent two years on case interviews for this?". Of course I played along and acted confident. She went on to ask:
"If you can only ask your client one question, what would it be?"
"I will ask for their objective."

"what will you ask next?"
"circumstances surrounding the problem."

"yes. but what questions."
"Questions like, what have you done in the past leading the arise of the problem? How is your numbers compared to other competitors/industry? How long has the problem been around..."

"Okay. That's good. What would you ask next?"
"I would try to isolate the departments that are performing well.." At this point I was a bit confused by the non-questions and having trouble with the data, or lack thereof. At last, the buzzer went off and I didn't go through the whole made-up scenario. I felt terrible and thought it might have costed me my offer.

Later, I talked to other interviewees (one of them became a close friend), and realized they all have a normal data-intensive case question. So I am not sure how much experience is valuable to you. Just know that this non-case question has happened before.
