Junior analyst

I emailed Andre Neill (co-head of PPP London) expressing my desire to both work in PPP and for Investec in London. My email was very formal and I wrote it like a cover letter, I also attached my cv to the email.

Following this email he replied very politely (to my surprise) and also with a financial skills test and with instructions to send it to a junior member of his team. The outline of the test was to correctly work out the return of a potential investment. I was given an array information including the cost of the building (which was a hospital), the amount that we would take on in debt, the interest of this debt, the yield, the length of the investment etc etc.

I must have done an okay job on this task because about 10 days later I had a phone interview. The interview lasted about 45 minutes and was very interesting but I realised I was out of my depth. I had only recently looked into PPP and I don't think I showed the level of industry knowledge they were hoping for.

I subsequently didn't get another interview.
