Interview
Very rapid hiring process. I found the position on a job board online. I applied and they got back to me within a week to set up a phone interview. First phone interview, with the hiring manager, lasted 45 min (scheduled for 30). Had a second follow up with his boss a few hours later. Before I got off the phone with the director, I was scheduled for an in-person interview. Both of the phone interviews were behavioral, asking about my interests and capacity to perform the role, no technicals real other than saying I know what IMM and OFFSET do. The in-office interview lasted about an hour and a half and was also purely behavioral. The people seemed incredibly nice, smart, relaxed, but slightly bureaucratic/corporate (it was an interview after all).
Interview Questions
How do you assure cooperation with different departments that are differently incentivized than you are? The interviewer (Div Head) went on to describe a situation where different departments (Field Property Management) will have different incentives (pay) to report information to the investment management team. They might report that the rental market is tight and there is not much room for top-line rental rate growth, since that would impact occupancy and would hurt their overall pay. The interviewer said that some, but not all people do this.
