Summer Job

The HR department reached out to me because I had a contact in the company who had referred me to them. They contacted me by email to schedule a conference call, after which I was allowed to skip the online resume drop. All candidates that pass the resume screening are invited to take a test consisting of Math/Logic, general knowledge, and english questions. After passing this phase, candidates were interviewed one-on-one by an HR rep. If you pass this stage then you are interviewed by a manager who will be your boss during your internship period. Overall, there was a strong effort towards making the environment more friendly and easygoing as the hiring process progressed.

Preparation for the interview consisted of reading a lot of news papers, websites, journals for a couple of weeks before the process began. The written test is the stage where this will be the most helpful. Deep understanding of finance is not necessary as they expect to train you while on the job. Managers will notice if you are well informed in regards to recent deals the bank has been part of. If you're just going to know read up on one topic then learn about the bank.

The work culture is very relaxed, people are friendly and very professional. Every floor is an open office structure so no one is segregated into cubicles. Everyone arrives early and stays late because they seem to enjoy what they do, not because they have to. It is common for people to treat each other with respect and not have differential treatment for different ranks.
