Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I was contacted by an analyst on the power, renewables, and infrastructure team for an analyst role in July after applying to the firm's graduate program in the fall. The analyst mentioned in the initial e-mail that they had identified me as a well-placed and potentially strong candidate. They asked me to forward an updated CV to them if I was interested in the position. I quickly replied back with a CV and we set up a phone interview for next week. The interview itself was conducted by two analysts and an associate on the team. They started off with some fit questions (Walk me through your resume, why investment banking given your non-finance background, explain your thesis, they also asked me a few current events questions since I was a politics major). After this part, they shifted into gauging how much technical knowledge I have. They asked me about the three financial statements, how you would value you a company. When I mentioned dcf analysis, they asked me to walk them through a DCF When I did they asked a modifying question to see if I had additional knowledge beyond the basic walkthrough of a dcf. They finished by asking if I had any questions for them. Overall, I would say that all the people I interacted with were friendly. About two weeks after the interview, I was told through e-mail that I did not make it through to the next round. My advice for future candidates would be to know your basic technical questions and answers in addition to the fit questions you usually get in a phone interview. It was a 50/50 split for me between the two types of questions.
