IBD Sophomore Summer Analyst

I applied through my career services website. I referenced one person (not an alum) that I had networked with in my cover letter. Earlier in the year I met with him at his office in NYC. Not sure if that contact had any impact in helping me get an interview. I interviewed on campus and I had 2 interviewers in a single 45 minute interview. I didn't get a second interview but heard (through a friend that worked at JPM) that for sophomores they are really looking for "diversity hires." In the interview they started out with "walk me through your resume" and then peppered me with somewhat random questions - testing my on the spot analytical abilities. They asked about which financial publications I followed and to discuss a couple of articles I had read recently. The most important questions seemed to be "what do you bring to the table in terms of diversity?" and "choose a local business and value it."
