Private Banking Summer Internship
General Interview Information
Interview Details
1st Interview was a phone interview:
It lasted 30min. An associate from the private banking team in Geneva called me. He started with the usual background check questions (tell me about yourself...). Then he asked me some questions about financial current affairs (who is the governore of the Fed and the ECB? What are the levels of the Fed Fund Rate and the ECB rate? What do you expect that the Fed and the ECB will decide during the next 6 months? Could you sum up the major trends of the market during the last 6 months? How do you think that the market will behave during the coming year?). The interview was hold in English and FRENCH!
2 months after my phone interview, they invited to a "superday" in Geneva. They paid for my travel costs but not for accomodation. The interview was not in their office but was outsourced. They had a team from the human resources department from the London office coming to prepare the interviews. 5 other candidates were there (Oxford, LSE, Bocconi, ESCP and Rotterdam). They were all applying to the garduate program in Asset Management while I was applying to the summer internship program.
The 1st interview was a group interview (Superday, assessment center):
We were given a set of cases and we had to choose one. Then we had to discuss it and propose a solution. It lasted approx. 45min in total. We chose a case about wooing young investor to asset management. At the end we had to present our solution and were asked some questions.
The 2nd interview was a 1 to 1 interview (Superday, assessment center):
I was interviewed by a Director from the Islamic Finance team. He focused on background, personal and "why do you wanna work for JPM" type of questions. I did not have any Finance-related questions. He was very interested in personal questions such as "how would you define yourself?", "What are your qualities and defaults?. The guy wouldn't be happy with one or two characteristics. He really wanted me to say as much as possible about myself. It was quite intense.
The 3rd interview (Superday, assessment center):
Quite similar to the 2nd interview. No Finance-related questions. Only background, personal and "why do you wanna work for JPM" type of questions. The interviewer was really interested in what I had done during my previous internships.
Finally, 2 weeks after the superday, I was asked to do one more interview (while I was supposed to receive an answer right after the superday). It was another phone interview with a person from the Emerging Markets team where I was supposed to work if I were picked. The interview went very well and was quite short (approx. 15min). Once again only background and personal questions, no Finance-related questions. The only surprise was that the guy interviewed me in English, French and ITALIAN!
