Please describe the interview / hiring process.
Attended a networking dinner in the city where I study. Applied shortly hereafter through the online application system. Had two telephone interviews approx. one week apart. First one was on a Friday afternoon and without any notice. Second one was agreed upon through email a few days in advance. Mostly fit questions, questions about my resume and quite a lot of market questions including "how would you invest $1 mill?". Didn't hear anything for about 5 weeks after which I wrote them an email as I had received another offer. I was then flown to London the next day for an AC. The AC began with three 1 on 1 interviews - one fit / technical with a director, one purely fit with an executive director and one purely technical / brainteaser with a director. None of them were hard and all were very nice people. Brainteasers included the 10x10 cube and guesstimate was the number of carriages on the London tube. It seemed like they all liked my laid back attitude. After the 1-o-1s we were given an article and 20 minutes to prepare a presentation on investing with a horizon of a few weeks (it was a test to see how up-to-date we were on markets). As the presentation was a summary of how major indices had moved the previous day it was more or less useless and I didn't use mine at all. I presented for a douchey junior who didn't take notes, didn't nod and was generally just sitting there. He made me contradict myself when talking about Japan. After the presentation there was a group interview in which we were four applicants who had to come up with 3 ideas to start-ups each (in 5 minutes) and then cut them to four we could agree upon. We were then supposed to pitch our ideas to "investors" (two bankers who had been in the room the entire time and heard our discussion). I took a laid back approach and only spoke when I had something to say. Obviously some of the others were just trying to get as many words across their lips as possible which frankly made them look a bit pathetic. Lastly we had a paper-based numerical test which was the same as the online one. At the airport I emailed the people who had given me business cards during the day. I was called and received the offer after two days by the first guy I had interviewed with at the AC.
