Summer Associate

The interview process was one round, consisting of four 1-1 interviews. One was with an Associate, two with VPs, and one with an MD of various groups.

Two of the interviews were technical (calculating enterprise value, WACC given a capital structure and EBITDA given several income statement items). The other questions were standard, such as walk me through a DCF, the three valuation methods, and moving depreciation through the three financial statements.

The motivational interviews were different depending on the person. The VP was very abrasive and direct with his questions. Do not fluff your answers-with someone very direct, I believe it is best not to beat around the bush. The MD, on the other hand, was very accommodating and very easygoing. The best thing to do here is to prepare answers to the questions you know you will be asked (why you, why banking, why this firm), but also think of talking points for parts of your resume that may stick out. Extracurricular activities, sports, travels, etc. Know why these things helped make you the person you are and how they will help you better succeed, rather than saying because it seemed fun or you just wanted to. In doing so, you can more easily connect on a personal level with the interviewers.
