Summer Analyst
General Interview Information
Interview Details
The interview was led by an associate who asked me to "tell me about yourself." I told him about my experience at the investment company and my excitement with M&A advisory. He asked me to walk him through the three financial statements and asked me to tell him they they relate to each other. I asked him a few questions about the firm's strategy and that was it. After about a week, they invited me for 2nd round interview in-person.
This interview was led by a Vice President who asked me to tell him about myself. I told him the same story that I told the associate, but this time I expressed my passion for investment banking more authentically (more excitedly). He said then began telling me what the analysts got to do as interns and how they get fantastic experience (participate in cross-border sell-side and buy-side deals and capital raises, conduct market-based valuations, etc.). I asked him several questions about the firm and he was very responsive. All in all, I thought the interview went well.
About three weeks later, they told me via email that they couldn't hire me. I asked why and they told me that their intern who was there for the spring semester decided to stay for the summer.
