Summer Intern

The interview process was for a analyst position at National Bank of Canada, for positions in either sales and trading or Investment Banking. It is a 3 round process, the first round being a skype interview, which i had in January 2015. A md from fixed income trading and an associate in IB interviewed me. However since it was the first round, it was more general questions and getting to me as a person and so forth. They also talked about their internship program and how once you graduated you would be rotating between IB and Sales and Trading. The rotational period lasts for about a year (I cant remember how long exactly), with 12 weeks in training in Montreal. Apparently National Bank is the top bank for trading Fixed income with in Canada .
A very interesting program, moreover the culture sounded very interesting, with plenty of opportunity to grow. The interview was not very hard, but you have to be concise and not ramble on (which is what i kind of did). Nonetheless they were friendly.

My advice, know your resume and read the news. Show your activities outside of finance. AND DONT RAMBLE.
Also always research some of the deals and talk about in the interview.

The interview structure:

15 mins of questions

then you asked them any questions.
- This part is the perfect opportunity to ask about any deals they did as this will show your interest and will catch them by surprise. I asked about the deal they advised between bell and Astral media. Make sure you do research on the deal and on both companies before hand.

Also ask what do they like about their job the most or talk about a relevant macro event (more so for sales and trading)
