The interview/hiring process consisted of two interviews, both conducted over Zoom. The process began when the Managing Director (MD) from Oppenheimer reached out via email to initiate the interview process. The interviewers were friendly and the interviews themselves were focused on behavioral questions, particularly exploring the candidate's motivation for pursuing Sales and Trading (S&T) as a career. Additionally, there was a component of mental math involved during the interviews.

The first interview took place over zooom on the trading floor and lasted approximately 45 minutes. The questions covered topics such as why the candidate was interested in Oppenheimer and specifically in S&T, as well as their knowledge and understanding of S&T. The candidate was also asked about their long-term goals within the company.

Following the interviews, the interview process moved swiftly, with quick results provided. The entire process, from the initial contact by the MD to the final decision, was completed within a two-week timeframe.

Overall, the interview process at Oppenheimer consisted of two Zoom interviews that focused on behavioral questions, particularly regarding the candidate's interest in S&T. There was also a mental math component included. The process was efficient and the interviewers were friendly throughout.

Interview
The hiring process was very straightforward. There was an initial phone screen with an analyst, followed by another 2 on 1 phone interview (~1 week after the initial screen) with more senior people in the group. The second phone interview was followed by a super day (~2 weeks later) with 3-4 in-person interviews.
Interview Questions
The questions were mostly related to DCF guide questions with some follow on questions that went outside the book and tested a deeper understanding than memorization of book questions. Technicals began with walking through a DCF and then got into the calculations of beta, WACC, and some nuances. The most difficult question was can beta be negative. They asked me about valuing companies that I worked on in my prior experience as well, be prepared to provide background on any prior deals, the companies' products and/or services, and how you valued the companies and why.
