The Oppenheimer Sales and Trading hiring process typically begins with an online application and resume screen, where they look for interest in markets, basic technical exposure, and strong communication skills. Candidates are then invited to complete a HireVue or video interview that includes a mix of behavioral questions, a market or stock pitch question, and possibly a light technical or math question, with a focus on how clearly and confidently you communicate. Successful candidates move to a final round consisting of one to three interviews with salespeople, traders, or senior professionals, where they are tested on market knowledge, a stock pitch, quick thinking, and overall fit, with a strong emphasis on personality and ability to discuss markets naturally. Offers are typically made shortly after the final round, and because class sizes are small, the process is competitive and heavily focused on fit and genuine interest in markets.

Going to have a first round with some guy via zoom who asks basic behaviorals (no techs). then you get pushed to the superday which is 3 1 on 1s. 1 of them is going to be with a sort of HR person who only asks behaviorals and the other two are a mix of behaviorals and technicals. Technicals are not the basic 400 M&I guide ones so do your research.

Interview Questions
Fairly straight forward process. The behaviorals during the superday got more intense than I was previously accustomed to but not all that different from other investment banking interviews I have had. Also asked some brain teasers I was not expecting.

Interview
The interview/hiring process consisted of two interviews, both conducted over Zoom. The process began when the Managing Director (MD) from Oppenheimer reached out via email to initiate the interview process. The interviewers were friendly and the interviews themselves were focused on behavioral questions, particularly exploring the candidate's motivation for pursuing Sales and Trading (S&T) as a career. Additionally, there was a component of mental math involved during the interviews.

The first interview took place over zooom on the trading floor and lasted approximately 45 minutes. The questions covered topics such as why the candidate was interested in Oppenheimer and specifically in S&T, as well as their knowledge and understanding of S&T. The candidate was also asked about their long-term goals within the company.

Following the interviews, the interview process moved swiftly, with quick results provided. The entire process, from the initial contact by the MD to the final decision, was completed within a two-week timeframe.

Overall, the interview process at Oppenheimer consisted of two Zoom interviews that focused on behavioral questions, particularly regarding the candidate's interest in S&T. There was also a mental math component included. The process was efficient and the interviewers were friendly throughout.
