Senior Acquisitions Analyst Interview - Real Estate
I met with the head of HR/head of the family office first. The interview was very casual. Typical questions tell me about yourself, walk me through your resume, why real estate, what does your current position entail etc. It went very well
The second person I interview with was the hiring manager and head of the real estate group. He ask me to walk through my resume. He would stop me and ask probing questions about my experiences and how I thought that would relate to the open position. He asked me to walk him through a JV transaction, multiple hurdle cash flow waterfall, and my current positions investment criteria. I have 3 years of prior real estate acquisitions experience, but he was very critical of my "quantitative" abilities. The interview concluded with the hiring manager asking for some work samples to confirm my abilities.
Overall, the two interviews felt a bit like good cop bad cop. Three days later I was informed they had extended an offer to another candidate.
I explained my modeling abilities and my knack for squeezing extra yield out of our deals to make sure we were as competitive as possible. He was not satisfied with this answer.
