Interview
The interview process with Samuel A. Ramirez & Co. consisted of two separate interviews with Managing Directors on the Capital Markets desk. The conversations were largely informal and conversational, designed to assess both my technical competencies and overall fit. While they explored my understanding of financial markets and proficiency in Excel, there was also a strong emphasis on behavioral questions—how I’ve handled challenges, worked in team settings, and approached high-pressure situations. The tone was welcoming rather than rigid, allowing me to walk through my thought process and experiences naturally. Each MD was very friendly and made sure to leave time at the end for my questions, which made the overall experience both engaging and comfortable.
Interview Questions
There were no particularly difficult or unexpected questions during the interview process. Everything was fairly straightforward and aligned with what I anticipated for a Capital Markets role. The questions focused on my understanding of financial markets, my experience with Excel, and behavioral scenarios related to teamwork and handling responsibility. Overall, the conversations felt structured but natural, without any attempts to “stump” me or introduce curveball questions.

Following that, the superday consisted of a 4-on-1 style, with department heads focusing on behavioral assessments. Advice: very friendly team, have a strong understanding of bond valuation and fixed-income, and come in with a good understanding of the firm's history and strategy.
