Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I applied to RBC directly through the online application portal without prior networking or referrals. After submitting my resume, I received an email invitation for a first-round interview conducted over Zoom. The communication from the recruiting team was clear and organized, with detailed instructions about timing, format, and expectations. The scheduling process was straightforward, and calendar confirmations were sent promptly.

The first interview was virtual and lasted approximately 30 minutes. It began with behavioral questions focused on my background, leadership experiences, teamwork, and interest in RBC specifically. The interviewer was professional and structured, but the conversation felt conversational rather than overly rigid. After the behavioral portion, the interview transitioned into technical questions. These covered core finance topics such as valuation concepts, financial statements, and general investment banking fundamentals. The progression from behavioral to technical felt intentional, starting broad and then becoming more analytical.

In terms of organization, the process felt efficient and well-coordinated. Communication was timely, and expectations were clear. There were no unexpected changes or logistical issues.

My perception of the people I interacted with was positive. The interviewer came across as thoughtful, intelligent, and direct, but not intimidating. The tone suggested a culture that values preparation, professionalism, and technical competence. Even through Zoom, the environment felt polished and structured, which aligns with RBC’s reputation as a large, established financial institution.

For future candidates, I would strongly recommend preparing both behavioral stories and technical fundamentals equally. Be ready to clearly articulate why RBC specifically, not just why investment banking. Even without networking, demonstrating genuine interest in the firm’s culture and platform is important. On the technical side, focus on mastering the basics rather than expecting obscure questions. The interview tested foundational understanding more than trick questions.

Overall, the process was professional, structured, and efficient, with a balanced emphasis on cultural fit and technical capability.
